Since April 2025, changes to non-emergency patient transport rules across England now means less people can access the service. Healthwatch is already hearing that people are struggling to reach vital hospital and clinic appointments. This is a worry for people in York and North Yorkshire.
Non-urgent patient transport is run by Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Other organisations, such as charities like St John Ambulance, or private providers, may also provide these non-emergency journeys under NHS contracts. They are a vital lifeline for many people across our county who are reliant on them for support, treatment and pain relief.
If you or someone you care for has been unable to access patient transport, Healthwatch wants to hear from you.
