North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue advice when visiting the country side in this hot weather.

With the weather warming up North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service are giving advice if you're visiting the countryside.

Nationally there's already been double the amount of wildfires this year compared to the same period in 2022.

Here's how you can help to protect our beautiful countryside:

• Stick to designated paths and always leave gates and property as you find them

• Take your litter home, especially glass bottles and jars

• Discard of smoking materials carefully - never throw cigarette ends on the ground or out of car windows

• Don’t have campfires or barbecues in the countryside, instead look for safe designated areas - small fires can quickly spread especially when the ground is dry

• Park responsibly and make sure a fire engine or ambulance would be able to pass

• If you spot a fire in the countryside dial 999 and ask for the fire service
